About Me
My name is Alan Chaess. I prefer to describe myself as a Professional GEEK by trade, podcasting superhero by night, and a sociable/lovable nerd the rest of the time.
I have a lot of interests on-line and off-line. I love movies, I have a general interest in Asian culture, animation, programming, podcasting, video editing, gadgets, social-networks, new media and more.
The N3RD side
I have been working with computers professionally and in IT for over 13+ years now. I have developed many web applications ranging from simple to complex. My code-language drug of choice has been recently Microsoft based. I used to build ASP classic websites, I have switched to ASP.net (however I prefer my MVC methods I created and used in ASP classic that does not nativity exist in ASP.net)
I also have in the last few years found myself writing WinForm (GUI) and console (cmd-line) apps. On and off the clock. Some of the more recent applications I have built and are working on off-clock include the use of all 3 (web, cmd, gui).
Getting off the subject of programming, I have always been a techie. When I was a kind I was somewhat of what we now call a “maker”. Following in the footsteps of my father I used to like to build things, take things apart and understand them better. A lot of this resulted in me fixing things and being rather handy.
I have always been a technical / logical based thinker and problem solver. Oddly I turned out to NOT be a vulcan. Thankfully I am social and outgoing. Don’t get me wrong, I can be shy and lazy, I’m not always interested in being the first to break the ice. But the point is, I am not without humanity and emotion. I can feel my fingertips and I do care that I can.
I also like tech, I work with computers professionally. Outside of work I used to not go online much and not sit at the computer. Unfortunately that has changed due to the fact a lot of my hobbies and interests revolve heavily around the use of computers. Podcasting, video editing (AMVs, VLOGs), programming and etc.
I think this is enough for now. I’m sure by now you recognize that I like to talk a lot (or in this case write).
